Health Science courses
The School offers a range of Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Research Degrees as well as Continuing Personal and Professional Development and short courses in the fields of:

Undergraduate and Pre-Registration courses
We offer a range of undergraduate/pre-registration degrees in nursing, midwifery, optometry, radiography, speech and language therapy and human communication. Each course is developed to deliver the core skills and understanding needed to pursue and succeed in these challenging and rewarding careers.
Foundation degrees
We offer two foundation degrees, Introduction to Optometry and Introduction to Health Sciences.
As a student on the Introduction to Optometry Programme, you will be studying within a Division which has an internationally excellent reputation within the optometric profession. You will study a curriculum informed by our world leading research which is at the cutting edge of advances in the sector and be taught by academics who are leaders in their field.
The Introduction to Health Sciences programme will provide you with a thorough education in the core components required to study one of the following health-related BSc (Hons) programmes at City, University of London:
- BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing
- BSc (Hons) Child Nursing
- BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing
- BSc (Hons) Health and Social Care
- BSc (Hons) Radiography (Radiotherapy and Oncology)
- BSc (Hons) Radiography (Diagnostic Imaging)
- BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy
- BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Science
You will develop a range of key transferable skills needed to work effectively within the current and future health and social care environment.
Postgraduate Diplomas and pre-registration courses
Our graduate-entry pre-registration courses allow graduates from other disciplines to gain a pre-registration health qualification in approximately two years as opposed to the usual three or four - providing a fast-track route into health professions.
The following courses are designed for health professionals who wish to gain a second registration in midwifery, health visiting, school and district nursing.
- Postgraduate Diploma Midwifery (90 week shortened programme) - for qualified, NMC registered adult nurses
- Postgraduate Diploma Primary Care (Practice Nursing)
- Postgraduate Diploma Public Health (School Nursing, Health Visiting and District Nursing) – for qualified, NMC registered nurses and midwives
Top-up courses and post-registration
Our range of post-registration courses for health and social care professionals allow practitioners to "top-up" their existing qualification to degree level or gain a second specialisation.
Postgraduate courses
The School of Health Sciences is a leading provider of postgraduate education in healthcare and health and social care policy and practice.
Postgraduate students learn with academic staff who are clinical practitioners and engaged in interdisciplinary research across the fields of nursing, midwifery, food policy, health policy, psychology, management and research, optometry, public health, radiography and language and communication science.

Masters courses
Our flexible postgraduate Masters courses allow students to further develop clinical skills in specialist practice areas or to develop in-depth knowledge in areas relating to clinical practice, health policy, health management, health research, and leadership.
Our Masters courses start in September each year, though some also offer the opportunity to begin studying in January.

The School of Health Sciences is committed to developing the future research, practice and policy leaders for the healthcare sector. With world class researchers and experienced practitioners leading our courses, students graduate with a high level of skill in research methods and in the implementation of evidence-based care.
Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPPD)
Lifelong learning is a fundamental part of the School's ethos and many students return to us to continue their professional development throughout their career.
Our Continuing Personal and Professional Development (CPPD) portfolio delivers a wide range of courses that benefit both employers and individuals by tailoring activity that fits around personal and professional commitments.
We offer a wide range of day courses, modules and bespoke training to develop clinical skills, broaden knowledge in academic and practical areas, and allow practitioners to move into health research.
We also provide opportunities for healthcare professionals to diversify into leadership and health service management.
